Miranda Pedersen did not realize how impactful her transition would be when she started her career in treasury management 20 years ago. After her mentor encouraged her to enter the Treasury industry, her entrepreneurial spirit and natural curiosity allowed her to adapt to the role she is in today where she continues learning about a client’s business so she can strategically offer personalized, client-focused solutions.

As Bank of Central Florida’s Treasury Management Team Leader, Miranda recently shared more about why treasury management is so important for business owners and the reason she loves it.

Why Treasury Management?

Businesses need treasury management to function day-to-day, but what makes the field so unique? For Miranda, it’s because what she does is so interesting and niche. “It’s a critical function of every business,” she states, “Not a lot of people know what treasury management is, and it allows [our team] to come in and give clients a particular set of products that help them grow their business.” With the help of treasury management officers, business owners and CFOs can understand the tools available to streamline their cash resources, protect their assets against fraudulent threats, and work towards their financial goals.

A Day in the Life

The day-to-day of a treasury management professional is based on what clients need, but to help a client, Miranda and her team focus on getting to know the business and the layers underneath first. “Every day brings a new challenge, and learning how a business makes their money can become very layered,” she explains. “Finding out more about a client and learning more in depth about them is the fun part of my job.”

As a part of her daily routine, her recent client meeting at a pediatric dentistry office demonstrates her fascination in a client’s story. She learned that the owners are passionate about working with children who are tongue-tied. The owners’ drive to help children have a positive experience at the dentist motivates their team and Bank of Central Florida, so the business can create a lasting impact on the community. With the help of Miranda and the Treasury Management team, that empowers the team at the pediatric dentistry to focus on what they do best and create that great experience.

As she continues serving clients, Miranda also appreciates the ability to connect with business owners in person. When making what Miranda refers to as a “treasury office call,” she visits a client’s place of business and prioritizes educating clients on the products they are using to manage their treasury products efficiently. “When we make a treasury office call, we don’t send an email and have our clients call a phone number,” she clarifies, “we have a one-on-one connection with them as we sit with clients and walk them through the services and products in the comfort of their office. We bring Treasury to them.” The treasury management team’s ability to connect with clients allows them to provide the best possible solution for a business.

Being in Your Market

Each relationship is unique, requiring a collaborative approach between the Relationship Management and Treasury Management teams to deliver a personalized client experience. These teams serve as equal partners throughout a client’s financial journey.  Relationship Managers take a holistic view of the client relationship, working alongside clients to understand their goals, support their growth and connect them with the solutions and expertise they need.  The Treasury Management team complements this relationship by helping clients optimize liquidity, manage cash resources, and strengthen the sustainability of their financial operations.

Treasury Management’s relationship with “in market” clients allows them to be in their market. “When we make treasury office calls, we are literally down the street as a treasury management team,” she continues, “we want to make sure the client is comfortable in managing the products they have, but if they have a question, we are a phone call or an office visit away.”
